Nobel prize winner Klaus von Klitzing witnesses synQPSK transmission (14.11.2007)
The German physics Nobel prize winner (1985) Prof. Dr. Klaus von Klitzing, who discovered the quantum Hall effect and gave his name to the Von Klitzing constant, gave a well-received, inspiring talk at the Univ. of Paderborn on 14 Nov. 2007. He visited a laboratory of the Optical Communication and High-Frequency Engineering group, where realtime synchronous optical QPSK transmission with polarization division multiplex was shown to him, with the contributions of the synQPSK partners.

by Prof. Noé (left) about the synQSK transmission setup.
In the box at the
left, a polarization-dependent loss element placed between rotating waveplates generates a time-variable polarization scenario which is
tracked by the polarization diversity synQPSK receiver. From left to right: Prof. Noé, Prof. von Klitzing,
