M.IBS.3153 International Business

Inhalte (short description):

This class focuses on innovation in intercultural virtual teams. Students learn about the challenges and success factors of collaboration in teams with members from diverse cultural backgrounds, in different time zones, and in a virtual setting. With a focus on innovation, students learn how to address the specifics of creative tasks, idea implementation, and strategy development – in intercultural virtual teams.
As part of this class, students participate in the X-Culture program, which is an international collaborative project that brings together students, professors, businesses, and researchers to address real-world business challenges. Participanting students work in intercultural virtual teams to develop solutions for companies, gaining practical experience and cross-cultural collaboration skills. Students work in these teams over an approximatley 2-month-period (in October/November, concrete dates will be announced via PAUL/ PANDA; the kickoff will be BEFORE the offical start of the lecture period, most likely in the first week of October or possibly during the last week of September). During those two months of X-Culture participation, students have to meet weekly deadlines in collaboration with their intercultural virtual team. We accompany the X-Culture participation with regular support sessions.
In tandem with the X-Culture program, students receive evidence-based insights on innovation in intercultural virtual teams and engage in reflection exercises that consolidate the learnings from the X-Culture project (in block seminar sessions in November/December, concrete dates will be announced via PAUL/ PANDA). Evidence-based insights concerning cross-cultural communication, global leadership, conflict management, virtual collaboration, CSR, and international innovation help students to reflect on their experiences and derive individual implications for the future. They report on their reflection and learnings in a presentation and a reflection paper.
