Empfohlene Voraussetzungen (prerequisites): |
---|
Students are expected to have a solid (undergraduate-level) knowledge of
microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. Some knowledge of international
economics is helpful, but no prerequisite. Students need to be ready to use Stata (or other statistical software). Some previous knowledge of these programmes is therefore beneficial, but no prerequisite. |
Inhalte (short description): |
---|
The aim of the course is to equip Master
students with the necessary skills to conduct own empirical projects in the
area of international economics. We start with a couple of blocked meetings
where students are introduced to the different topics covered in the course and
are getting acquainted with the software Stata and some of the empirical
methods. In the second part of the course, students independently conduct their
own empirical projects. Typically, this means replicating a study published in
a leading journal – usually based on existing code – and providing a reasonable
extension. Students summarize their findings in a term paper and present them
in class. While
we will only discuss applications in international economics, most of the
empirical techniques covered in the course can also be applied in other areas
of economics. |
