Inhalte (short description):

The module introduces students to the European Union ‘s transition process towards becoming the first climate neutral continent by 2050. The module is divided into three parts. The first part provides background information on climate change and the European Union institutional framework, explains basic environmental economic issues and concepts, outlines the European Union's environmental status and its strategy towards Net Zero (in particular the European Green Deal, FitFor55, RePower EU). The second part focusses on selected aspects (e.g. energy market, emissions trading, carbon border adjustment mechanism, fiscal and financial aspects). In the third part student groups prepare short presentations on selected topics, which serve as a basis for further evaluation and critical discussions. The lecture is accompanied by an exercise which starts slightly delayed. It provides room for content related questions and guidance for the short presentations.
