This module offers a comprehensive introduction to theories of international trade. It covers both classical and modern approaches, with particular emphasis on the globalization of markets for goods and services. Students will gain a solid understanding of the determinants and patterns of trade, the gains from trade, and the implications of globalization for national economies. The accompanying exercise sessions are based on key readings in international economics and are designed to reinforce the theoretical concepts presented in the lectures. They provide students with opportunities to deepen their understanding through discussion, problem-solving, and clarification of issues arising from the lecture material. During the lecture, students are required to submit short questionnaires (exact number to be announced). These questionnaires are discussed at the end of each lecture to review and reflect on the concepts covered. With the submission of these questionnaires, students can collect bonus points. The lecture concludes with a 60-minute mid-term exam, held towards the end of the first part of the semester (exact date to be announced). The mid-term exam account for 95% of the overall grade. After the midterm examination, students are required to read a chapter from the latest edition of the Krugman and Obstfeld textbook, International Economics: Theory and Policy. Based on this reading, students must submit a concise two-page summary, to be uploaded as the final course assignment. This assignment contributes 5% to the final course grade. |
