The Economics of Health Care Reform:

A Global Comparison - Healthcare costs continue to increase in many countries making cost containment a primary objective of health care reform efforts around the world. Many economic measures can be employed to contain costs while maintaining or improving the efficiency of the health care system. The objective of this course is to examine the economic health reform policies and their outcomes across a variety of countries, including Germany. Questions include the following: Is there a convergence of economic policies across countries? Does competition improve efficiency and quality? Are policies aimed at reducing demand more or less effective than supply-side controls? What are the implications for equity?

Instructor: Prof. Jane Ruseski, University of Alberta, Department of Economics, Edmonton, Canada
