Inhalte (short description):

This course focuses on timely challenges and opportunities in international management. 

The lecture (weekly sessions) discusses different theoretical perspectives as well as empirical findings on international management phenomena and mechanisms such as:

  • Institutional theories, cultural models, cultural distance
  • Relationships of national culture and institutions with organizational and economic outcomes
  • Differences of national business systems
  • The changing international business environment and management decisions
  • International entrepreneurship
  • International leadership
  • International human resource management
  • Students engage (in groups of 2-3 students) with one empirical paper that analyses an international management​ phenomenon or mechanism. In one graded presentation (one session in the middel or towards the end of the semester), they present the paper and  own ideas on the topic and method. 

    In the exercise classes, students iteratively develop (in groups of 4-6 students) evidence-based internationalization strategies and action plans. They learn how to adapt their decisions based on information and feedback they gather.​ To enable this itertive process, they present their group work at different stages (twice in the middle and once at the end of the semester). For those presentations, they receive bonus points. At the end of the semester, they submit a graded report elaborating on the final suggested strategy.

    The exam, covering international management research, theory, and practice, takes place at the end of the semester. ​

    There will be weekly lectures and exercises throuhout the entire semester. Sessions with group presentations will be during the middle and end of the semester. Depending on availability, student groups can choose their presentation dates. At the end of the semester, students have to submit the graded report. The exam takes place after the lecture period. 

    NOTE: The language of the course is English.
