Inhalte (short description):

In the module„Methods of Economic Analyses“, analytical techniques for the investigation of economic problems are discussed. This includes: Non-linear optimization with or without constraints (Lagrange and Kuhn Tucker), dynamic optimizaton, dynamic games, duality in consumer's demand (Hicks vs. Marshall, integrability) and price formation in (general) equilibrium

Lernergebnisse (learning outcomes):
Fachkompetenz Wissen (professional expertise):
Studierende...

The students…

· should know about price formation mechanisms in an edgeworth box.

· should understand the importance of optimization (and equilibrium) problems in neoclassical economies.

· shall gain knowledge on modelling and solving static and dynamic optimization problems as well as non-cooperative game situations.

· shall describe Marshallian and Hicksian demand, the duality concepts and the integrability theorem.

Fachkompetenz Fertigkeit (practical professional and academic skills):
Studierende...
The students...- use analytical techniques for the investigation of economic problems like the non-linear optimization with or without constraints etc.  - shall be able to use the Lagrange and Kuhn-Tucker methods, the backwards induction, the subgame perfectness integrability and the Walrasian mechanism.- shall be able to use the studied techniques in various economic problems.

Personale Kompetenz / Sozial (individual competences / social skills):
Studierende...

the students...

- form learning groups on their own and work together on the content of the lecture and the exercise course.

- take actively part in the exercise course

Personale Kompetenz / Selbstständigkeit (individual competences / ability to perform autonomously):
Studierende...

The students…

- analyze economic problems with the help of the learned techniques.

- evaluate real world situations economically and compare real outcomes to the theoretical ones.
