W1472 Grundzüge der Statistik II A basic knowledge of econometrics (the linear regression model as e.g. covered in „Introduction to Econometrics“ (Bachelor) or „Econometrics“ (Master) is assumed. We will start with a repetition of the linear regression model, but this will be rather quick and incomplete. |
Inhalte (short description): |
---|
The course teaches students basic methods to empirically analyze questions by using micro data (e.g., individuals, households), empirical methods and statistical software. This is called "Microeconometrics" as opposed to "Macroeconometrics" or "Time series analysis" which typically uses aggregated data instead of individual level data. In the first two weeks of the course, basic knowledge of econometrics is repeated. In the following weeks, students learn about the maximum likelihood method and various non-linear models that are frequently used in microeconometrics (e.g. binary probit and logit models, multinomial logit models or ordered logit and probit models). In the last weeks of the course, a special focus will be placed on causality and panel data models. Students learn how to apply these methods using microdata and the software package Stata. The course takes place regularly during the lecture period (in person). The modul concludes with a written examination in the designated phase after the lecture period. |
