Inhalte (short description):

The course provides an up-to-date overview of the economics of natural resources and the environment and introduces the key concepts and the different dimensions of this field. The first dimension deals with general topics such as ethics, sustainability and welfare, which form the conceptual basis of natural resources and the environmental economics. The second dimension focuses on specific topics such as pollution, project evaluation and the exploitation of natural resources. In this context, students are familiarized with both theoretical and empirical methods and learn to apply them to real economic problems.

The course is divided into two parts:

1. First part of the semester:

The first part of the semester spans 10 weeks and begins with an introductory session in the first week, followed by a 4-hour weekly lecture. Detailed timetables and lecture materials are available on the PAUL and PANDA platforms. This part concludes with a 60-minute midterm exam, which is the first element of a three-part examination and takes place towards the end of the first part (exact date to be announced). The mid-term exam counts for 50% of the overall grade.

2. Second part of the semester:

The second part, which runs from the 8th week of the semester to the end of the semester, involves a seminar project in which students are organized into groups. Each student investigates a research topic and submits an individual paper of approximately 15 pages, which is the second element of the examination process. This is followed by a group presentation of the group's project paper, which is therefore the final part of the examination and concludes the semester. The submission of the project paper and the presentation of the group project count for 50% of the overall grade. Throughout the project phase, students will receive support in the form of individual and group consultations aimed at guiding their research and improving their academic writing skills. At the end of the semester, students can review both their examination results and their project work
