Inhalte (short description):

Introductory lecture takes place in the first week of the semester.

Within the seminar we discuss selected topics of financial accounting based on research papers. It provides an overview of different roles and usages of financial accounting which underpin different areas of accounting research. We first get an overview of different research areas in business economics, particularly in accounting, and discuss various theories (first third of the seminar). Next, we provide an introduction on how to read accounting academic research and interpret the results. We also learn about generation of research ideas, development of hypotheses and data collection (second third of the seminar). Then we work through selected academic papers, which are carefully chosen each semester to reflect the newest trends in research (last third of the seminar). Students are required to read, summarise and present a few academic papers. This knowledge helps students conduct their own research (e.g. master thesis) as well as develop their own research ideas.

This module is a block-seminar. We meet in class approximately five times. Meetings are concentrated in the first three months of the semester. The submission of assignments will be followed by a discussion in class during the course. ​Exact dates for meetings and short presentations are determined each semester separately to account for any national holidays. ​
