​M.184.1401 Grundzüge der Volkswirtschaftslehre​

Inhalte (short description):

​The reasons why some nations prosper and others suffer from poverty has been investigated by economists for several decades. The module introduces students to classic and contemporary theories of economic growth and development as well as to corresponding empirical applications. Adopting a global perspective, we focus on economic challenges of developing countries both at the macroeconomic and the microeconomic level and discuss potential policy solutions. ​

The main textbook is Todaro, Michael P. and Stephen C. Smith, Economic Development, Pearson, 13th ed., 2020. In addition, the course is based on selected alternative textbooks as well as original journal articles. A detailed reading list will be provided in class.
