Inhalte (short description):
The module covers economic and institutional aspects of the process of European Integration. The weekly lecture is split into roughly three equal parts throughout the lecture period. Topics of the first part include the history of European Integration, institutions of the European Union, the European Economy, the Single European Market, fiscal policy and the budget. The second part covers theoretical models of trade and integration, market forms and spatial economics. The third part covers monetary aspects of the European Union, including its monetary history, optimum currency areas and the Euro, and the European Union's Monetary Union and the European Central Bank. Depending on student's preferences, the exercise will be offered weekly (1 hr each week) or bi-weekly (2 hrs every second week). Based on question sets, the topics covered in the lecture will be further discussed and practised. The module examination consists of two online homeworks (question portfolios), which are due around mid of the lecture period, and will be finished by a written exam which will take place at the end of the lecture period. All dates, resources, and other organizational issues will be outlined in the first week of the lecture period.
