Inhalte (short description):

​The course introduces students to the financial system, and provides an overview of a financial system in a developed economy by describing its main components. The course explains the role of a financial system in the economy, the functioning of financial markets, the main characteristics of common financial products, the valuation of financial assets, the nature and management of financial institutions, the role of central banks in the payment system and the regulation of the financial system.

  • understand and describe the roles of the financial system and the payment system in a modern market economy and how they are regulated
  • understand and describe the role of the various financial markets, financial institutions and financial instruments in a modern economy

  • ​are able to perform basic financial calculations based on discounted cash flows
  • can apply the concept of duration to calculate potential losses from duration mismatches.
  • use financial derivates to hedge against various risks.

  • intercultural communication skills due to the high proportion of international students in the course of studies (around 70% of students) and English as course language
