Current reference models on product creation lack the level of detail that is required to plan, coordinate, and supervise large-scale product creation processes in industrial companies. Inspired by best practices in industry and a review and extension of the extant research, the module will focus on formalizing the product creation process further and develop a reference model that can be instantiated and applied in industrial companies. The module starts with the observation that our modern society is based on an almost uncountable number of “things" which get created in industry. The procedure to design all these products to produce them in a series production follows more or less always the same pattern. It is the pattern of process, organization, and project management in OEM[1] industry. Usually, it is a very complex cooperation between many line functions inside a company and as well between companies which means supplier integration. Of course, there are differences between industries such as Chemistry, Automotive, Medicine etc., but the main paradigm is very similar. For an intuitive understanding, this seminar will focus mainly on everyday products such as pens, screwdrivers, printers, washing machines, automobiles, computers, planes etc. The Program:

It is expected that students bring some flexibility
into participating in this seminar. The coordinator, Prof. Dr. J. Krueger, has
more than 20 years of experience in process and project management in the
automotive industry – however, this is the very first time to bring all these
experiences into a comprehensive and methodological view. The idea is to
elaborate jointly the product creation process and try to apply it hands on the
idea of developing an electrical bicycle. Participating students agree to
provide their thesis / presentation to be partially used in a potential
publication. |
