​​Students are expected to have a solid (undergraduate-level) knowledge of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. Some knowledge of international economics is helpful, but no prerequisite. Students need to be ready to use Stata (or other statistical software). Some previous knowledge of these programmes is therefore beneficial, but no prerequisite.

​This course discusses recent developments in international trade. It gives an advanced introduction to firm heterogeneity in international trade, covering stylized empirical facts about exporting firms, a discussion of how firms select into exporting (Melitz model), estimation of production functions and product quality and exporting. The course also discusses recent advances in global value chain models and trade and the environment.
