Definition [Matrix]
Unter einer Matrix versteht man ein rechteckiges
Zahlenschema mit Zahlen aus $\mathbb{R}$.
Die allgemeine Form einer Matrix ist:

Eine Matrix hat Beispiel
Gegeben seien die folgenden drei Matrizen $\rm\bf A$, $\rm\bf B$
und $\rm\bf C$ mit:

Bei Matrix $\mathbf{A}$ handelt es sich um eine quadratische $2
\times 2$ Matrix mit den Elementen $a_{11}=1, a_{12}=2,a_{21}=3,
a_{22}=4$. Die Matrix $\mathbf{B}$ ist eine $1 \times 4$ Matrix
(Zeilenvektor) mit $b_{11}= 1, ..., b_{14}=-4$ und Matrix
$\mathbf{C}$ stellt eine $4 \times 2$ Matrix mit $c_{11}=-1,
...,c_{41}=-7,c_{12}= 2,..., c_{42}=8$ dar. Für die quadratische
Matrix $\mathbf{A}$ bilden die Elemente $a_{11}=1$ und $a_{22}=4$
die Hauptdiagonale, die nur für quadratische Matrizen definiert
ist und stets von links oben nach rechts unten verläuft.
