Abstract:
The interaction of single particles with the radiation field in the vicinity of microstructured dielectrics is investigated theoretically. Our motivation is to improve the understanding of single-molecule fluorescence probes that are used in the group of V. Sandoghdar (ETH Zürich) to characterize the mode structure of the crystal near field. Further studies will be devoted to the radiation of active nanoparticles implanted at crystal defect sites (integrated nanolaser), and to the trapping of neutral atoms or molecules in highly localized modes (qubit storage). Numerical and analytical methods to compute the light field are being developped.
