Barbora Šedivá (Brno, Czech Republic) REMAKE /
REthinking Media Art in K(C)ollaborative Environments

Several cultural organizations started REMAKE with the simple idea: to approach the internet research database Monoskop in an interesting and playful way and respond to the challenge to present contemporary art works inspired by the rich history of media art in Central and Eastern Europe. REMAKE is a dynamic event, presenting a certain stage in this project’s thinking: artists and independent curators from the network of congenial international teams were trying to find the best way to mediate important pioneer works of media art (often ignored by international art history) and transfer them to a contemporary context. Works and practices of artists such as Stanisław Dróżdż, Vladimir Bonačić or pioneer of Slovak acoustic-electric music Jozef Malovec had proven to be invaluable sources of inspiration and a great material for progressive contemporary art. In this project art works were realized, embedded in local history, promoted in the international context. Their relationships and connections within the exhibition mirrored subjective views of important parts of history of art and development of technologies. The final REMAKE exhibition had several stages and served as a space for events as well as for research and interaction for its visitors. The idea of the show – working with already existing art works – also contributes to the topical discussion about the perception of art as either intellectual property or, on the contrary, as a source of inspiration.

An dem Projekt: "REMAKE / REthinking Media Art in K(C)ollaborative Environments" waren Organisationen aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern beteiligt. Cooperating organisations: The Brno House of Arts (CZ), Atrakt Art (SK), Alt Art (RO), Ping (FR), Multiplace (SK), The Lost Horse Gallery (IS), Institute of Music Science – Theory of Interactive Media MUNI (CZ), Olomouc Museum of Art (CZ), CIANT (CZ), Academy of Fine Arts and Design (SK) and others. More info: http://exhibition.remakeme.eu

Barbora Šedivá is a member of Atrakt Art (Bratislava) and 4AM Forum for Architecture and Media collectives (Brno). Editor of 3/4 magazine, a co-organiser of Next festival of advanced music (Bratislava), and the coordinator of Multiplace new media culture festival. Barbora co-curated the  Asking Architecture - the winning project for the exposition in the Czech and Slovak Pavilion at 13th International Architecture Exhibition of la Bienale di Venezia 2012. She leads the TIM_LAB seminar at Masaryk University Brno (Theory of Interactive Media department ). The TIM_LAB course provides an environment for an active exploration of the current trends within the realm of media art and its historical context. The objective is to create public archives of period material and a database of information about locally important events and personalities whose importance transgresses the borders of the region. Barbora co-organised and co-curated Remake / REthinking Media Art in K(C)ollaborative Environments, an international art project aimed in creation and presentation of new works inspired by the history of media arts (2010-12).

Der Vortrag findet statt am 03. 06. 2014, 18 Uhr,
Silo des Faches Kunst, Warburger Str. 100
