Punk debate Berlin 2010

2010-01-15 We successfully took part in our first tournament in 2010, the punk debate in Berlin on January 9th/10th!

The DSP sent two teams and one adjudicator: "DSP Gefährliches Halbwissen" was constituted by Nadine Feldmann and Sarah-Maria Humburg, "DSP Melius Tacuisset" by Tobias Fankhänel and his teammate Simeon Reusch (Klartext Halle) who helped out for Holger Johanndeiter. Elias Ojanperä completed the group as adjudicator.

All of them being relatively new in the Debating society, the experience of 44 teams taking part in a really huge tournament was quite overwhelming! Thanks to the Berlin Debating Union who organised not only the debates themselves, but also sleeping places, delicious food and a big Saturday evening Debating Party!

After having watched the New Year's Debate with Germany's best debaters on Friday evening, both teams were keen to test out their debating abilities themselves. The four debates of the first round comprised topics from all different areas, e.g. negotiations with Al-Qaeda or the abolition of celibacy.
After really interesting and exciting debates, "DSP Gefährliches Halbwissen" just missed the semifinal by some points and ended up on the 11th position. "DSP Melius Tacuisset" could definitely convince the jury of their debating skills and reached the semifinal where they debated the motion "Dieses Haus würde kinderreichen Familien einen Orden verleihen" ("This house would give a medal to families with many children").

After a fantastic final with a large audience everybody said goodbye - we're sure to see each other again soon on one of the next tournaments!

Hey,

first of all: what a nice new website! I'm really happy to see that you were finally able to get it done! I couldn't find something like a guest book and therefore I'll use this comment option, now, to send some warm new year's greetings from Spain!

I guess that I've never met most of you so far, but I really hope do so next summer when coming back to Paderborn. Even though you have a lot of other things around you when living the hard and demanding life of an ERASMUS student I really like to have a look around on the website from time to time and see how the club is doing (I know - Katha warned me about it last summer). At this point once again congratulations for all the good results that you achieved during the last months. I wish all of you the best for any upcoming event like the Showdebate or tournaments (I hope you are sending as many teams to Bremen as possible) and see you in June ... or maybe earlier ;-).
